Are Those Fatuous Antics Funny?

fatuous-cool-words

When you think of a clown, you might imagine someone wearing lots of makeup and a big, red nose.

But today’s concept of a clown can actually be traced back to the Middle Ages when court jesters provided entertainment to kings and nobles.

Most modern clowns use slapstick and mime-style humor. Even though this fatuous (see definition and hear pronunciation below) behavior can often be entertaining, some people find clowns to be frightening and anxiety-provoking.

In fact, the term “coulrophobia” is used to describe the fear of clowns.

Cool word question of the day: Do you find fatuous behavior to be entertaining or off-putting?

Fatuous: Foolish or silly, especially in a self-satisfied way.

This monument is located at the exact spot where the four states of Colorado, Arizona, Utah and New Mexico abut (see definition and hear pronunciation below).

This unique meeting point allows tourists to simultaneously straddle the four states.

It is also the only location in the United States where four states meet.

California is one of the main US states that has been affected by devastating wildfires.

This year alone, more than 5,000 fires have been reported in the state.

The fiercest of these fires can take more than a month to contain.

During that time, people may have to evacuate their homes. In some cases, houses are destroyed by the fire.

Whenever one of these wildfires breaks out, it is an exigent (see definition and hear pronunciation below) situation that requires immediate attention from firefighters.
