Even though the United States is home to many famous landmarks and monuments, there are a few that are not well known.
One such landmark, called the Four Corners Monument, is located in the southwestern region of the United States.
This monument is located at the exact spot where the four states of Colorado, Arizona, Utah and New Mexico abut (see definition and hear pronunciation below).
This unique meeting point allows tourists to simultaneously straddle the four states.
It is also the only location in the United States where four states meet.
Who would have thought that you could be in four states at one time!
Cool word question of the day: Why do you think that tourists would want to visit a location where four states abut?
Abut: To touch along an edge; adjoin.
