Talk about a horrible smell!
If you’ve ever been “sprayed” by a skunk, you know that the odor can be downright nauseating.
That’s why skunks, with their fluffy black coats and trademark white stripes, are among the most feared animals.
They’re relatively small creatures, but their highly effective defensive mechanism causes humans and most other animals to avoid them at all costs.
If you do happen to cross paths with a skunk, be sure to give it plenty of space. It can spray that acrid (see definition and hear pronunciation below) scent up to 10 feet away.
And this is definitely an odor you won’t soon forget!
Cool word vocabulary question of the day: What can you think of that produces an acrid odor?
