Tigers are one of many animal species that are at risk of becoming extinct.
Over a roughly 100-year period, the world has lost 97% of the tiger population, according to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). Only 3,200 tigers are estimated to still exist in the wild today.
The paucity (see definition and hear pronunciation below) of tigers has led to their placement on the endangered species list.
Fortunately, many organizations are working to inform people of the scarcity of tigers and making efforts to prevent them from becoming extinct.
