Beware of Spurious Money!

spurious-cool-vocabulary-words

Most of us don’t carry around $50 bills that often.

But if you do happen to have one and try to spend it, you might notice that the cashier is likely to check to see if it is counterfeit.

Counterfeit $50 bills are rare. Less than one of these spurious (see definition and hear pronunciation below) bills shows up for every 25,000 genuine ones.

However, if you find yourself with a counterfeit bill, it will have no value.

What’s more, a counterfeit bill cannot be exchanged for a real one, and it is actually against the law to try to spend it!

Cool word vocabulary question of the day: Can you think of any other valuable items that could be spurious?
