Much of today’s popular music is influenced by instruments and musical sounds that were used in ancient cultures.

A lot of current pop music from South America, for example, is influenced by the musical styles of the Andean cultures.

In our global world, it is important to recognize and protect these indigenous (see definition and hear pronunciation below) sounds.

These musical influences have a lot to teach us about the culture and history of the people who came before us!
