One duty of Barack Obama, the President of the United States, is to sign legislation that has been passed by members of Congress to create new laws.
Whenever this process takes place, it’s likely that some people will support the new law while others will oppose it.
If it’s a particularly controversial issue, you may hear your friends and family discussing it, while political commentators may also express their sentiments (see definition and hear pronunciation below) in the media.
This free exchange of ideas and opinions is one of the main advantages of a democracy.
