It’s often hard to believe that some of the tastiest foods can also be among the healthiest.

Take those delicious slices of watermelon we slurp up as a treat on hot summer days.

They might seem like nothing more than a succulent (see definition and hear pronunciation below) burst of refreshment, but watermelon is actually chockfull of healthful properties.

The fruit, which originated in Southern Africa, contains lots of important nutrients, including potassium, vitamin C and lycopene.

There’s also an excellent reason for eating it when the weather is hot–watermelon is a great source of water, so it quite literally cools you off!
