What a Toothsome Treat!

Do you love chocolate? Without question, it’s one of the most popular flavors for desserts.

Most people, however, know little about the rich history of this toothsome (see definition and hear pronunciation below) treat.

When cacao beans, the source of chocolate, originated around 1000 B.C. in Central and South America, chocolate was consumed only in drinks.

In fact, solid chocolate didn’t exist until the 1850s!

Of course, this delicious dessert is now widely available, although rare varieties still exist.

Believe it or not, one of the world’s most expensive chocolate treats, made by Knipschildt Chocolatier, costs $2,600 per pound!

Cool word vocabulary question of the day: Do you agree that chocolate is a toothsome treat, or do you prefer another dessert?
