Watch Out for Stagnant Water!

Imagine that you are walking through the woods and pass by a pond or body of water that’s completely still instead of flowing.

If it’s a hot day, you may be tempted to jump in the water to cool off.

But don’t do it. Standing water can be dangerous.

The World Health Organization explains that “still’ water is often a breeding ground for insects, especially mosquitoes that carry diseases.

So, the next time you see stagnant (see definition and hear pronunciation below) water, think twice before you jump in!

Cool word vocabulary question of the day: Can you think of anything else that might be considered stagnant?
